Peachee Farms: A Family Farm’s Succession Journey
July 12, 2025From Start-Up to Standout: The Painterland Growth Story
How Painterland Sisters went from a strong start to a national surge
A BUSINESS CONSULTING & MARKETING CASE STUDY
Since their first 3,000 store launch, Painterland Sisters has become a household name in natural dairy.
When we first shared the Painterland Sisters story, they were celebrating a big milestone: launching their skyr yogurt into 3,000 stores.
At Good Roots, we helped Hayley and Stephanie get their feet under them before they started running. We cleaned up the numbers, sharpened their story, and mapped out a plan that made sense to banks, retailers, and customers alike. With those roots in place, they had the confidence and credibility to land a $1M line of credit and roll out their product nationally.
Today, they’ve more than doubled their retail footprint, achieved national distribution in Whole Foods, and have worked with over 100 dairy farms, primarily in the state of Pennsylvania.
Here’s how the right foundations made the difference.

For Hayley and Stephanie Painter, the dream was to help their family's dairy farm thrive for generations.
When Hayley and Stephanie Painter set out to save their family dairy, they had more passion than resources and more ideas than clarity. Should they make cheese, beef or yogurt? It all seemed possible, but without a clear plan, it was hard to know where to begin.
How We Helped
Financial foundations: building credibility in the numbers
The Painter sisters started with a $3,500 grant and a dream of supporting their family farm. But dreams alone don’t convince banks. We helped them build a 10-year financial model, tighten up their books, and create a plan they could put in front of a lender with confidence. That work led directly to their first major breakthrough: a $1M line of credit from their local bank. Years later, the same foundation gave them the confidence to raise $1.2M through a WeFunder campaign, fueling the next stage of growth.
Without clean numbers, they never would have gotten past the starting line.
Marketing foundations: a brand that belongs on the shelf
Painterland Sisters always had the story: two sisters on a mission to honor their fourth-generation farm and connect families with the people who grow their food. We helped them tell it in a way that stuck. Together, we built their customer profile, refined their messaging, and developed packaging and marketing materials that looked as good as their yogurt tasted.
That branding didn’t just move product. It built trust with retailers, who saw them as more than a start-up. They looked like a brand ready to scale.

Strategic foundations: a plan that made growth possible
Every entrepreneur faces crossroads, and for the Painter sisters one of the biggest was deciding how to bring their product to market. Should they build a facility of their own, or partner with a co-packer and focus on brand growth? With Good Roots’ guidance, they chose the co-packer model, a choice that kept overhead low and freed them to concentrate on sales and visibility.
To strengthen their sales strategy, we also connected them with a seasoned CPG expert who stepped in as their Fractional VP of Sales. This added experience gave the sisters the tools and confidence to approach retailers, set realistic sales goals, and scale in a sustainable way.
These decisions created a roadmap they could trust. Instead of chasing growth blindly, Painterland Sisters had a clear path forward and the right expertise in place to follow it.
“We would simply not be where we are today if it weren’t for the supportive team at Good Roots.”

From vision to reality
When Hayley and Stephanie Painter looked at their family dairy, they saw more than barns and fields. They saw generations of hard work, a way of life worth preserving, and the possibility of something bigger: a future where their farm could feed communities and carry forward a legacy.
Achieving that dream wasn’t simple. The sisters had determination in spades, but determination alone doesn’t pay bills or build markets. That’s where Good Roots stepped in, helping them lay the groundwork: clarity in the numbers, strategy for growth, and a brand story that resonates.
With those roots established, the Painter sisters didn’t just secure their fourth-generation farm. They grew it into a movement. Today, Painterland Sisters is proof that values-driven farming and smart business can thrive together. Their success strengthens rural communities, gives families access to clean, nutritious food, and shows that profit and purpose don’t have to be at odds.
As we often say: no margin, no mission. Painterland Sisters shows that when the roots are strong, the mission can shape not just a business, but a better food system.
